Pressure Washer Low Pressure
When pressure builds but stays weaker than expected — weak but steady, not pulsing and not gone — the usual consumer-safe causes are a partly restricted supply, a partly clogged external inlet screen, a partially clogged removable nozzle, or an unsuitable low-pressure spray setting. If all of those are clear and pressure is still low, the cause is likely internal and you should stop.
Safe diagnostic flow for weak steady pressure
These checks target partial restrictions that reduce working pressure without killing it entirely. Only observe parts the manufacturer designates as user-serviceable, with the machine off, unplugged or shut off, and pressure released before you remove any accessory.
- Confirm the supply is fully open. A partly open spigot or a slightly kinked supply hose can reduce flow enough to drop pressure without stopping it. Open the spigot fully and straighten the hose.
- Check the spray setting. A low-pressure rinse tip, a soap-injection setting, or a tip that does not match your model's specification can keep output below working pressure. Match the nozzle to the job per the manual.
- Inspect the external inlet screen. Remove the manufacturer-designated external inlet screen per the manual. A partly clogged screen limits water reaching the pump. Clean or replace it only with the designated part. Never reach past it into the pump.
- Inspect the removable nozzle. A partially clogged nozzle is the most common cause of weak steady pressure. Remove the nozzle per the manual and look for partial debris. Clean or replace it only as the manual allows, matching the exact model.
- Visually check for leaks. With the machine off and pressure released, inspect the hose, gun, and connections by sight only — never by touch. A small connection drip can bleed off pressure; a leak at the hose, gun, or pump area means stop.
